About

This blog was started on a Conservation Holiday in Palupõhja, Estonia in 2009.

The base was a nature school (Looduskool) next to the long wide Emajõgi river. A group of British, American and Estonians helped in conservation in a variety of ways. We repaired a little of the nature school, helped to take down another wooden building, hacked down shrubbery and built a patio. We also enjoyed many fun activities including an open air movie, a trip to Tartu , canoeing up and down the river and of course trip to the highest mountain... in the Baltics!!! In between all this we also experienced some local delicacies (including mushrooms and blueberries we picked ourselves) and song and dance. A real cultural experience.

For anyone interested there are quite a few poems, writings and photos taken in this holiday which can be found starting here.  There is more about Estonia throughout the blog including some more poems from Ian.

Ian also went on another conservation holiday, this time to Iceland. This time looking after pathways looking over a glacier. You can read about and look at the photos here.

The blog will continue to include articles about Estonia along with creativity (pictures poetry etc)

Please feel welcome to leave comments.

If anyone is interested in a conservation holiday then the BTCV run a few to different countries.
Elfond run some in Estonia. Of course there are many other ones throughout the world ... or of course your own town :)
