Tere!
Please can I come and practice this word again
Along with other useful words
that my awkward Prestonian accent
can’t really come close to replicating
The Estonian for bye
I do not know
Both literally and
Physically
So as I am always rubbish at good byes
then always Tere.
So if people are happy to say Tere!
Then I will be there
And for the people who are happy to say Tere!
For now... and now only... I shall say Ta-Ra!

Tourists
Hundreds of tour guides
with their boards with their numbers
No. 9 German
No. 3 Japanese
No. 16 French
and so they go on
like a river
after a storm
the tour groups stream through
Taking photos of stones
and buildings
Their pictures have no soul
no substance
only capturing some chemical and historical formula for these structures
But there is still spirit
and the buildings still breathe
Friendly stories from friendly faces
eeks them out, and lever them from each crack
And these people I dare call friends
they are the soul
So here is my number
No. 7 English & Estonian
My tour:
Here is where we danced
sang
climbed
laughed
ate
drank
wrote poetry
smiled
maybe no one will pay...
but its them who miss out

Red Boots
I put on these working boots
I lift a crowbar of choice
Maybe also a nice red one
I strain my non existant muscles
I pull my darkness away
I pull away
the crumbling wood
some panels don't want to leave
don't want to cooperate
with my flimsy arms
and my brain wants to give in
But my spirit ,
my soul
it dances
it tugs
These red boots
keep me working
"until my arms drop off"
or the panel does

Blueberries
People have always said
that I can't do this
I can't do that
I can't finish that course
I wont make it there
You arent a person to do this
You can't see colours , long or near
I wasn't sure
but I picked
and plucked
and gathered
So tell me
Whatelse I can do today?
And I will do another impossibilty tomorrow

The Great Patio Builder of 2009
O Palupõhja with your
lovely patio it must
have been created
with great lines
with passion
with precision
with labour
and all and for all
to enjoy the bricked sunshine
by the great patio builder who is now off to do the next
by Ian - was asked to write this by Colin
photo by me shortly after Colin asked me to write a poem about this and gave me the title

Battered house
in the forest
gradually falling down
slowly losing its homely qualities
Giving little shelter
Common shrew in little holes
a couple of plants inside
and the odd visitition of some house martin
through an old window frame
So pull down the outside
pull down the ceiling
rip up the floor
and dig up the dirt
Then use the structure
to build a new purpose
new walls, floors and ceiling
and a home once more

dreamer & sleeper

lover & hatred
deep sleep
low dreams
searching love
hating waiting
love a waitress
hate a sleepless
below the deepest
search a dream

My feet are dashed from dancing
my legs are worn from walking
my body is marked from mosquitos
my arms seem longer from lifting
my hands are dirty from demolision
my face is stretched from smiling
my mouth tastes tantalizing tea
my head aches from alcohol
my nose is sore from the sun
my, life is good

In Estonia
We travelled deep into the ancient wilderness
of Alam Pedja nature reserve
We came to a place called Palupõhja
which, translated into English,
means Heaven with Mosquitoes.
We found a land of birch forest and scots pine
of peat bogs and a lazy river
which could never decide which way to go,
so it went all ways at once.
We found a land of ravens and white-tailed eagles,
of wolves and racoon dogs
and moose and beavers and bears.
Or so they told us.
We worked from dawn to dusk for seven years
under the whip of a cruel master,
alongside local volunteers who had
all the strength and beauty, wit and talent of Estonia.
We cut down and burnt Estonia.
We demolished Estonia.
We stripped Estonia of all its mushrooms and berries.
We devoured all the meat and vegetables,
the bread and milk and salads of Estonia.
We drank Estonia dry of water, coffee, tea and beer.
Allowed one day of freedom from our labours,
we climbed the highest mountain in Estonia,
swam in the deepest lake in Estonia,
swam in the warmest waters of Estonia,
with the mist rising over the setting sun.
We drank Red Beer in the tallest pub in Estonia.
We have swum in ema jõgi, the mother river,
slept close to the ground under canvas,
relieved ourselves in wooden huts,
soothed our bites and aching limbs in saunas,
watched the pictures that flames make in the night,
drank deep from the well,
worked and played, walked and talked in sun and rain.
We will leave Alam Pedja knowing
we have come as close to earth, air, fire and water
as we may ever do in our lives.

Two Lonely Stars
two lonely
stars
in a sky of
nowhere
no place to
go
no place to
stay
no one to hear
no burden to
bear
one moon
one star
one mood
so far
away
from home
to stay
a bit more

A poem from Katrin in Kehrwieder
this was a week
full of surprises
half week
double surprises
wonderful
nature
wonderful
weather
wonderful rain
just in right time
wonderful people
doing hard work
having good time
really creative
cooking
best vacation ever
or at least for
many years
I believe everyone
of us
has their own
story
that might be
quite sad
or hard
or funny
but we all come
here
to forget our
stories
& have a good
time
& to enjoy
ourselves
& each other
& we did
better then
we ever
imagined
it was a
lovely
fair(e)ytale :)
and it has to
end
where all good
things do
but we have
our memories
of smiles & jokes
of mixed sauna
& great times
we carry it along
and we are happy
with it
and maybe someone's
stories change
& get another
ending
Michelle said
it was like
a laugh therapy
it was for me too
besides a therapy
of believing in
people
& believing there
are nice people
in the world
or in the other
side of the world
or in the other
side of Europe
anywhere
or just another
side of Facebook
actually :)

Warmest Lake in Estonia
They say this is the warmest lake
In Estonia , well so they said
I think I know why
And this is why the river was the warmest too
Robert ( (O) ) told us "we keep making new circles"
Like ripples in the lake
They may drift away
But they find where they are going
Then race back to you
Telling you their own little tales
Life isn't flat...
... with swell friends
